7-layer dip

A little wrap-up of the Super Bowl, as relates to blog interests.
The Last Airbender: M. Night Shyamalan’s live-action adaptation of animated TV show Avatar: The Last Airbender. Fox owns the rights to the film title Avatar, hence the title abridgment. First of a proposed trilogy.
Robin Hood: Ridley Scott. Umpteenth adaptation of Robin Hood legend. Cast well and thoroughly, including Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, William Hurt, Mark Strong, Max von Sydow, many more.
The Wolfman: Joe Johnston. Could be considered a re-adaptation, but sounds to be pretty close to the 1941 original, so I’m going with ‘remake’ on this one. Benicio del Toro reprises his film debut (in Big Top Pee-wee) as Duke the Dog-Faced Boy. Emily Blunt, Sir Anthony Hopkins. Delayed from November.
Shutter Island: Martin Scorsese’s adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s 2003 novel. Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Sir Ben Kingsley. Max von Sydow. Delayed from October.
Alice in Wonderland: Tim Burton. Umpteenth re-adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic. Standard Burton cast, which I am not desperate enough for Google hits to list, plus Sir Christopher Lee.
The Back-up Plan: Alan Poul pregnancy comedy with Jennifer Lopez and Alex O’Loughlin. Original property.
Prince of Persia: Mike Newell’s adaptation of the long-running (about a dozen installments over twenty [!] years) video game series. Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton. Sir Ben Kingsley.

If you count Max von Sydow, who should really be a CBE, if not a GBE, or at least get credit for playing one of film’s greatest knights in The Seventh Seal: 5/7
As long as we’re at it, if you count movies with knights in them: 6/7
If I happened to miss any ads, let me know in the comments. Unless you think I’d rather not know.
