Creative blackout
Just saw the poster for the new monster-in-Los Angeles-at-Christmas flick The Blackout, debut feature of Robert David Sanders. I love a good monster-at-Christmas movie, and will try not to hold it against the movie, but this is some pretty shameful poster copying. Here we have The Blackout, 2009 …
…and then the art for Feast, 2005 debut feature of John Gulager.

Holy crap!
That's pretty bad. But given all the remakes of movies themselves, I'm surprised more posters aren't copied. I guess it's a way for remakes to distinguish themsevles. "The Prisoner" remake ads seem to just highlight the star actors (the other obvious campaign would have leveraged the icons the original show created, e.g. penny-farthings, big white balloon things.) Although, I recently saw a trailer for "The Crazies" remake and they seem to be sticking with a gasmask image for the poster, as with the original.
I love this kind of thing. Keep it coming!
