This time it’s professional
If you’ll pardon a little post-Thanksgiving regurgitation, Moviefone has listed the 25 worst sequels of all time. I’ll skip you 25 clicks through the page-by-page list and give you the titles.
25. Bad Boys 2
24. Caddyshack II
23. Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace
22. Rocky V
21. Major League II
20. Jaws 3-D
19. Scary Movie 2
18. The Sting II
17. Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde
16. The Next Karate Kid
15. Battle for the Planet of the Apes
14. The Exorcist II: The Heretic
13. Be Cool
12. Son of the Mask
11. The Matrix: Revolutions
10. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace
9. Speed 2: Cruise Control
8. Weekend at Bernie’s II
7. Blues Brothers 2000
6. Jason X
5. Staying Alive
4. Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2
3. Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd
2. Basic Instinct 2
1. Batman and Robin
On the whole, not too bad. A couple films are followed by even worse films within the same series – Scary Movie 2, for example, is pretty good compared to Scary Movie 3 or 4, and Jaws 3-D is better than Jaws: The Revenge. I didn’t see Major League: Back to the Minors, the third installment.
Of course, there are things I like about Exorcist II and even Blair Witch 2. As always, Jason X is terrific.

Next Post: Sequel to sequel list
One would think you’d take this opportunity to complain about X-Men 3 not making the list.
And, really, is Weekend at Bernie’s II more awful than Mannequin: On the Move?
I probably should have, but I was trying to limit my comments to movies on the list. That said, most any chance to vent against X-Men 3 is welcome.
I’ve never seen Mannequin: On the Move. Perhaps I should set up comparison screenings of Weekend 2 and Mannequin 2? Back to back, of course.
Mannequin 2 is very much like the first, except Meshach Taylor’s generally offensive (on many levels) character is given a much larger part and I think backstory is made even stupider (on the plus side, it does feature Terry “Bernie” Kiser as an evil sorcerer).
Actually, a trip to Wikipedia reminds me that Bernie’s 2 involved a voodoo/zombie storyline. That is pretty awful. I think a screening is certainly in order.
Math, if you watch Mannequin 2, you’re taking me along for the ride.
And you have to admit that was not wholly bad pun on the first Mannequin.
Also, a Simpsons quote that has to be regurgitated as a result of this list:
“I know . . . Rocky V! That was the fifth one! So, Rocky five plus Rocky two equals . . . Rocky VII: Adrian’s Revenge!!”
